Fuck da Police

So, intense lack of content on my web space right now. I have been busy finishing up some things at work and with the Winter Holidays in full swing extra time has been sparse. Who the fuck really cares, to tell the truth. Who reads this site? Well, to whoever does I invite you to write a piece or two on my space of the web. My friend JK is supposed to hook me up with some of his remixes and then hopefully I will be able to pay attention long enough to learn how to use Ableton and pimp some of his shizdaz. I will finally be buying a Technics 1200 of some kind or another soon. I will leave you with a video which should inspire at least some of your musical juices somewhere in your brain. Enjoy (skip to 2:56 and at least watch from 7:56 to the end):

Current System Broken

This morning I was walking to work listening to B. Fleischmann’s “From To” and I started to dissect our current business model and figuring out how to either present a better alternative or at least some kind of improvement. The reason I started to think about this shiz was because of a video I recently watched from a site about the Story of Stuff. It was a simple video showing how our consuming patterns are linear instead of cyclic (we don’t reuse the things we buy, we toss them away). To say the least I would definitely take a look at the video. All of a sudden my brain kind of popped - why are we considered consumers? This is not regarding the way marketing exec.’s look at us, but rather the fact that we consume so much that our entire way of living is based around money and the economy. Why the hell do we need to purchase so much? In the video about the “Story of Stuff” it is stated that we throw out nearly 80% of what we buy (no, I have not looked up the basis for these numbers). I am a minimalist and an efficiency scrooge (aka. I don’t want to do more work then I absolutely need to) and this number baffled me. When I got around to thinking about it, I am also guilty of doing this. I have a mountain bike which is old and needs a lot of repairs, so instead of my Mamka coming to pick it up we are just going to buy a new one. Let me say that the bike is 10 years old, yet it was still in repairable condition. The current model should be tossed aside for a more progressive model learning towards the evolution of the human species. There are too many potentially brilliant minds going to waste watching the likes of MTV instead of learning and expanding their minds. Think about it this way. If we were to take the yearly advertising budget for all of the corporations in the developed countries and were to spend it on the abolishment of world hunger or the opening of new Universities then we could really do some good. These are just some thoughts from an idealistic and probably naive human being. Is there nothing we can do to remedy this situation?

Fun Video, Fun Sound

My friend JL hooked me up with this video a month ago when I went home for the weekend. The first time I watched it I was really tired and although I liked it didn’t fall in love with it. When I got home that Sunday and threw on the good headphones only one word comes to mind - yummy! This video makes me feel reminiscent inside and out because it reminds me of my childhood when I used to daydream of things exactly like this. I wish I could draw what goes on in my head because this is what goes on in my mind when I am just walking down the street sometimes (no wonder people ask if I’m pothead). Well, this song and video are fabulous and I hope that JL will drop in sometime and post something on this microcasm of the Internet I call home. The song is by Wax Stag and is called “Short Road”, enjoy.

Flying in Spandex

I just saw an article on Slashdot.org about squirrel base jumping. I’m not talking about our little furry friends (although squirrels are pretty cool and I would love to be able to chat with them about their wicked climbing skillz), I am talking about some crazy dudes who fly like flying squirrels in shiny spandex suits. They jump from cliffs and fly using tight fabric in between their legs and arms to keep the air resistance high enough to prolong the flight. Let’s be honest here though - who the fuck wouldn’t want to fly? For all of the jokes we crack at people for being “crazy” and trying this shit, don’t you want to try it? I think we are just a little jealous that we don’t have the courage to follow through on our ideas and dreams like these guys. If I had the opportunity to try this out I would do it in a second (as long as they were there to give me some pointers). This brings me back to the idea of sky diving - it’s gotta happen this summer. Here is a pretty good video to showcase the spandex flying (song could have been a little better):

Smooth Electronic from Brian Scibinico

Wonderful Tonight - By: British Airways London Eye Two weeks ago I watched a video podcast about making vegan-friendly chocolate cake from a site called VeganAGoGo. I really like the show and although the hostess seems a bit shy in front of the camera she has a really friendly vibe about her that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Another reason I love the show is because of the choices of montage music (music where she is cutting things etc. so they plunk in some background music to appease my short attention span). The chocolate cake montage song was from an artist in New York by the name of Brian Scibinico. “Tonight” is great with it’s simple beats yet full sound. It relaxes me so much that I listen to it while I eat cereal in the morning. Brian also has a Facebook account and seems like a pretty cool dude. Here is his song in all of it’s glory:

Talents … or lack their of

Lately it seems like I have no particular talents which I really excel at. Maybe it’s because I have the attention span of a four year old, but I just can’t seem to direct my focus on one thing. Instead I just watch as life passes me by. I am not depressed (or an emo as some people like to label) but I am a thinker and I guess I think too much. I watch films, read literature, look at art, listen to a vast amount of music and cannot seem to choose. I am trying to find something which I am truly passionate about and love to do (and will be good at) but can’t seem to find it. The only thing which really ever excited me and kept my attention was footbag but I am just not passionate about it. How do you find something which you are truly passionate about? Hmm … maybe watching life and trying to appreciate other peoples contributions is a contribution in itself. There need to be people who can appreciate as well as contribute. I just see that a lot of people aren’t contributing what I like or want which encourages me to fill that void. It takes a lot of love and effort to do something you are passionate about (and good at) which is why I respect people like The Polish Ambassador who contribute something free, good and positive to the vast amount of information in our world. Oh, if you haven’t listened to him yet pick up his latest round of shiznaz here for free.

Exploiting at Work

I was at work today and had to figure out a RAM problem for one of the people in my department. The person wanted to upgrade to 4GB of memory and they were having issues with video card and the BIOS beeping 5 times and then shutting down. I ended up changing the memory to a slower bus speed which ended up fixing the problem (for some unknown reason). Anywho, before I did this I went to the HP online customer chat to ask some questions about the machine and ended up browsing the source of the page. What I found was this… File Icon. I took a quick look (it’s a couple of pages long) and found nothing but my fellow employee did.

function getCookie(name)
{
var cookie = document.cookie;
var index = cookie.indexOf(name + "=");
if (index == -1) return null;
index = cookie.indexOf("=", index) + 1;
var endstr = cookie.indexOf(";", index);
if (endstr == -1) endstr = cookie.length;
//alert(cookie.substring(index, endstr));
return unescape(cookie.substring(index, endstr));
}

I just found it cool that with this information you can control what the website is retrieving from you and see exactly how they will be using it. Thumbs up to my crunkin’ coworker.

New Record … do you have a player?

This past Saturday I walked down Queen St. in downtown Toronto and stopped by Rotate This and bought a good ol’ record. The guy who was helping me out was excited that I asked his opinion on showing me records (because most people which travel there are music collecting gods) and he brought out like 10 vinyls. I was really excited about buying my second vinyl ever and one thing to lead to another…. and I am now the proud owner of a piece of vinyl by this guy (I think) 33/45. I love brain dance and am really psyched about listening to the tracks but I am lacking in the record player department. If anyone in the Dufferin/Steeles area has a working vinyl player and would like to share this musical experience with me then I would be honored (I’ll bring the beer).

Would You Like Some Space?

I think I pretty much have this shizdaz up and running to the point of being happy with it. I wish I had a dynamic web page but I really don’t want to go through all of the hassle of writing my own theme right now. I kind of like how it looks so far. Oh yessir and yessmadame’s I have some goodness to give away. All you have to do is buy a pimp domain name (ex. shizdaz.com - actually available) from a place such as Netfirms for $6 and then forward it to my server and you have your own web space. So, if all goes well then this is what you have for $6:

  • ~ 500MB of space (ton’s of room)
  • ~ 5GB bandwidth/month (about 1000 mp3’s downloaded by your fans per month)
  • ftp access (upload your files)
  • some friendly neighborhood advice from yours truly
  • your own .com (ex. myfantabulousnesssite.com)

I can only accept legitimate sites for bands, blogs, forums etc.
PS - I really can’t guarantee this since I have never really tried it out, although it seems very theoretically possible.

Dancing For The Masses

So, these guys over at http://kitsunenoir.com/ just dropped this wicked new dancing shit on me. The dancing looks spaztastic but at the same time so alluring. I intend on trying this out once my head doesn’t feel like exploding. It is this craziness which the French have named “Tecktonik”. It is off the sheezy. Check out this video (song: “A Cause des Garçons” - Yelle)
